Open formula referenceWhat the practice checker supports
This is a bounded teaching interpreter. It checks formulas against changed datasets and compares text without regard to capitalisation. Function names are also case-insensitive. Significant spaces inside text still matter.
- Arithmetic +, -, *, /, parentheses, %, text concatenation with &, comparisons, A1 and dollar-sign references, and rectangular ranges up to 1,000 cells.
- SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, COUNT, COUNTA, IF, AND, OR, NOT, IFERROR and ROUND.
- SUMIF, COUNTIF, SUMIFS and COUNTIFS with aligned criteria ranges, comparison criteria and basic wildcard criteria.
- XLOOKUP with exact, next-smaller or next-larger matches and forward/reverse linear search. VLOOKUP and MATCH support exact matching. INDEX supports positive row/column positions.
- LEFT, RIGHT, MID, LEN, TRIM, UPPER, LOWER, CONCAT and TEXTJOIN.
- DATE, YEAR, MONTH, DAY, EOMONTH and NETWORKDAYS in the 1900 date system. Exercises use fixed dates; NETWORKDAYS uses a Saturday/Sunday weekend.
- FILTER, row-based SORT and UNIQUE, compatible array arithmetic, LET and directly invoked LAMBDA with 1–7 parameters. Array results are checked by both dimensions and values.
- Commas or semicolons between arguments, decimal points for numbers, and formulas up to 300 characters.
Limits and native Excel tasks
The checker does not run Microsoft Excel. Whole-column references, exponentiation, cross-sheet references, named workbook ranges, structured table references, implicit intersection, spill-reference notation, recursive/named LAMBDA, wildcard/binary XLOOKUP and full Excel type conversion/error propagation are not supported. SORT and UNIQUE by-column mode are outside the checker.
Power Query, PivotTables, DAX, conditional formatting, validation, print settings and chart objects are taught with real Excel steps. Browser exercises test the underlying choices, results and interpretation. The workbook checker scores designated formula cells and supplies a separate manual checklist for native features. A supported alternative formula can pass; an unsupported formula is marked Needs review and excluded from the percentage.
Workbook privacy and checking
Your selected workbook is read locally in your browser. It is not uploaded, stored by us or sent to an AI service. The checker recalculates supported formulas and uses changed input cases; it does not trust saved Excel calculation caches. Use only the four SheetSprout .xlsx templates. Limits are 5 MB compressed, 25 MB expanded, 40 worksheets and 1,000 cells per formula range. Password-protected and macro-enabled files are not supported.
Keep original source inputs and worksheet names. Changed source data receives Needs review, so different input data is not mistaken for an incorrect answer. Workbook checking results disappear when you leave or refresh the page and do not mark online exercises complete.
Your learning progress
Correct online exercise checks are saved in this browser. Completing every exercise completes a lesson; viewing a solution alone does not. Progress does not sync across devices. Existing beginner progress is preserved when this site is updated at the same address.
Working without Excel
Browser exercises are free and need no Excel account. Downloaded workbooks need a compatible application. Function and feature availability varies by Excel version and platform; check each lesson’s notes.
